LIMITED EDITION MIX
In honor of Spring we are bringing back a very popular mix for a 3rd year. Oats & Groats with Sunflower Sprouts is a truly lovely crop - and so very very tasty. This is a simple mix and is very quick to grow - - and it makes for the perfect Breakfast - a living cereal.
As usual we mix up a batch and it's available while it lasts - which in the past has been about a month, so get it while you can =:-)
MAKING SHIPPING MORE AFFORDABLE
This was in our previous Newsletter, but I (Gil) fear I buried it under my ramblings - and since it is important to all - I've moved it up in hopes that all will see it.
When you buy 1 pound of seeds - you could buy 2 and pay the same shipping (almost always). When you order 3 pounds - you can order 4, 5, 6, or 10 instead - and pay the same price for shipping. This is due to USPS Flat-Rate boxes, which cost $15.40 to send - regardless of where they are going (US and its territories).
That's a medium flat-rate box. The 1-2 pound example is a small flat-rate box. It's all up to you - we just want to make it more affordable for you. Of course, we'll pay the shipping if you spend $120 and choose Free Shipping when checking out.Â
FYI - the seeds that can derail these numbers are Sunflowers, Buckwheat Lettuce, Hot Squared, Peanuts, Sesame, and maybe a couple others - but I'm drawing a blank right now. You'll see when checking out - the small flat-rate box costs you $9.75 - 10.75 (east of the Rockies), the medium costs $15.40 everywhere. A shipping quote will tell you what size box you're paying for, so you can add some seeds and save yourself some money - or at least save it from the postal service.
CHECKING OUT OF OUR SHOP
We apologize for the added difficulty, but we upgraded our security with our credit card processor - so you will get grief if you enter imperfect Billing info. To checkout without headaches you must enter the exact address your credit card bank has on file for you. You can and may enter a different Shipping address, but if your Billing address is even slightly off - our system will decline your order. This is much more difficult in the age of paperless billing. In the olden days we received our CC bills in the mail - where we lived - so we all knew our Billing address. We apologize for any frustration. It's all in the name of security, so please bear with it and do the best you can.
NEWS OF THE DAY
Luisa, our amazing box packer (and more) has been away for a week now, so I'm packing most of the boxes - though Lori and Sam pack some too as time allows. Subsequently this Newsletter is short on my rambling (you're welcome =;-) and my Sunflower Greens video is on hold. I will get back to it ASAP. I really want to share this one and it will help you all grow far better crops.
IRA, DJANGO, & GUS
Still wet and cool here in San Francisco, but we did hit 60° on Saturday, so Ira and I got to spend some hours in the garden - planting potatoes and beets, and fertilizing (organically of course) our garlic - and pulling and digging up weeds especially. It's that time of year. Happy Spring!
Sam spent some time in the garden with us - which Ira just loves. Â Sam took this during his stay. Note his crossed paws. Such a handsome little fellow!
Ira on our bed, enjoying late afternoon sunshine with Gus.
Gus in his basket (one of several around the house). Gus' love of squeezing himself into small beds was our inspiration for our (no longer available) Cat Nest, which had the catch phrase - If I Fits I Sits. He was actually just stretching before this picture - but he really does love squeezing into things.
Django sitting in his new toy/bed. Our friend Paula, who lives a couple houses up from us, has two indoor cats - Cutie Pie and The Rocket. If she gets them something they don't use she offers it to Lori - because Paula is Django and Gus' 2nd mom. So we've gotten several mint condition beds and toys over the years. Thanks Paula! Django loves this thing! There's an opening below - so he can crawl inside it too. I only wish you could see how blue his eyes are.
Gus sleeping in the afternoon sunshine, on the edge of our bed.
Ira on the couch and wrapped in a blanket. He tries so hard to make a bed for himself - but sadly he just hasn't worked it out yet, so we wrap him up. We love Ira!
Ira chewing on something while on a log at the park. These are very big logs that the park gardeners have put around our paved upper trail. Ira makes the big leap up on a regular basis. He's taller than most big dogs from up here.
Is he not CUTE?!

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPROUTS AND MICROGREENS
To us the difference is that with Sprouts we grow with nothing but water and we eat the entire crop (with the possible exception of hulls and roots that grow out the bottom of our Stainless Steel Sprouters) - and they are alive when we eat them. Microgreens are grown on a medium and we harvest them by cutting them just above that medium - at which point they move from alive to not. Raw, great, delicious - just not alive.
While I'm on this subject I need to explain why we have two different names for the same seed - like Broccoli Sprouts and Broccoli Microgreens. This is the same seed. The difference is that each crop has its own page - you go to the Broccoli Sprouts page to learn how to grow the seed into Sprouts and you go to the Broccoli Microgreens page to learn how to grow it into Micros.
This seed will also grow a full sized - which is like 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide - Broccoli plant in a garden - given the proper climate and encouragement.
SEED STORAGE
If you don't yet know how to get the longest life for your seeds - and prevent pests - Â visit our Seed Storage page. The best way to store seeds is in the freezer, but do not use the refrigerator as its humidity fluctuations can harm seeds. There's a bit more to it - so perhaps just visit the page =;-)
Grow to Live - Live to Grow.
Be well and happy.

Sproutpeople.org is an encyclopedic resource of our creation - for indoor farmers of Sprouts, Microgreens, and Grass. It is so enormous that it gives some  the impression that we are a big business. The reality is that we are basically 2 people who eat and breath Sproutpeople - and 2 part-time helpers (one being our son). Our site has been online since 1996. It's the employee that allows us to serve all of you.
Every Seed and Mix we offer has a profoundly detailed page devoted to it. Those pages feature two sets of Growing Instructions (Brief for the experienced and Detailed for the not yet experienced), a Video, Photos of the crop growing day-by-day, Recipes, Crop Specific Notes, Nutrition Info, and quite a bit more. Each of our Supplies also has a detailed page.
Our vast content is organized with Tabs (on computer) and Pull-Down Menus (on mobile devices).  Click/Choose, for example Detailed Instructions on the page you go to when you click any of the pictures surrounding this text - and you will be presented Seriously Detailed Instructions. Click around. Growing Photos. Notes. Recipes. Please let us share what we know.
We survive by selling on the internet, but we live to educate anyone who wants to learn about growing sprouts and microgreens. Learning is what the internet was actually built for, so we're really just doing our part.
Please enjoy sproutpeople.org
