SHORT NEWSLETTERS
I (Gil) tend to take a full day to write Newsletters. I’m trying to skip my ramblings (which take the most time) and just give you an easy read and some pictures. No doubt I will go back to my long rambing Newsletters at some point - but for now - enjoy the brevity. There’s a lot to do in the garden too, so I’m using the time saved well. Speaking of which - our Beets are a major success this year, and I’d Really like an authentic - like grandma made it - recipe - for Borscht. If you want to share one please feel free, and Thanks!
REMINDER - WE’LL BE CLOSED - BRIEFLY
I want to remind you that we are taking a rare vacation in early September, so please get your orders in as soon as you can, to prevent delays. We will be in Hawaii (not Hawaii Island or Maui - where we have gone in the past and for which we feel great empathy due to recent events) for a week. Our website will continue to take orders during our absence, but we will not be shipping between September 1 - 8. Email will also be slow that week.
We always ship orders in the order we receive them. We expect to ship all orders we receive by August 30, before we depart. If you order after August 30 your order will be in line and will ship - beginning 9/11, when we resume working. It will likely take us no more than a week or two to catch up, but do expect slight delays in order fulfillment until late September. Please plan accordingly.
It has always been the case when we travel - that we tend to work - some - - especially answering Emails. As our son, Sam is taking on a lot of jobs around here - he may answer you, but Lori and I really hope to have a total vacation - so we’ll have to see how communicative we are while we’re away. We will warn you again about this break before we go, but we know it is impossible to communicate anything to everyone - though we continue to try =:-)
A SHORT SALE
Given that we consume an enormous quantity of Leafy Sprouts this time of year (see previous newsletter for more info) - and we grow them in our Stainless Steel Sprouter - we think it fitting to offer our Vertical Leafy Sprout Kit to you at a discount, so we’re doing just that - but only for a few days. From August 15 - 18 the kit will be on sale.
We have 2 detailed videos about growing these Seeds in this Sprouter…

Rinsing Leafy Sprouts Upside-Down
If you’ve never had a fresh Tomato-Sprout sandwich - you simply must try one. It is such a profoundly simple meal - and it’s astoundingly delicious! We do use mayo, and/or chipotle mayo, and - if we have it - horseradish on the bread - in case you want to know =;-)
THE FURRY BOYS
We had a really lovely weekend recently - which is very rare on the west side of San Francisco in Faugust, so the boys took it in happily.
Essentials for those new to the world of Indoor Farming...
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPROUTS AND MICROGREENS
To us the difference is that with Sprouts we grow with nothing but water and we eat the entire crop (with the possible exception of hulls and roots that grow out the bottom of our Stainless Steel Sprouters) - and they are alive when we eat them. Microgreens are grown on a medium and we harvest them by cutting them just above that medium - at which point they move from alive to not. Raw, great, delicious - just not alive.
While I'm on this subject I need to explain why we have two different names for the same seed - like Broccoli Sprouts and Broccoli Microgreens. This is the same seed. The difference is that each crop has its own page - you go to the Broccoli Sprouts page to learn how to grow the seed into Sprouts and you go to the Broccoli Microgreens page to learn how to grow it into Micros.
This seed will also grow a full sized - which is like 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide - Broccoli plant in a garden - given the proper climate and encouragement.
SEED STORAGE
If you don't yet know how to get the longest life for your seeds - and prevent pests - visit our Seed Storage page. The best way to store seeds is in the freezer, but do not use the refrigerator as its humidity fluctuations can harm seeds. There's a bit more to it - so perhaps just visit the page =;-)
Grow to Live - Live to Grow.
Be well and happy.

Sproutpeople.org is an encyclopedic resource of our creation - for indoor farmers of Sprouts, Microgreens, and Grass. It is so enormous that it gives some the impression that we are a big business. The reality is that we are basically 2 people who eat and breath Sproutpeople - and 2 part-time helpers (one being our son). Our site has been online since 1996. It's the employee that allows us to serve all of you.
In addition to a section that teaches the Basics of Sprouting and Growing, a goodly section of Recipes, a bunch of Videos, and a whole lot more -
Every Seed and Mix we offer has a profoundly detailed page devoted to it. Those pages feature two sets of Growing Instructions (Brief for the experienced and Detailed for the not yet experienced), a Video, Photos of the crop growing day-by-day, Recipes, Crop Specific Notes, Nutrition Info, and quite a bit more. Each of our Supplies also has a detailed page.
Our vast content is organized with Tabs (on computer) and Pull-Down Menus (on mobile devices). Click/Choose, for example Detailed Instructions on the page you go to when you click any of the pictures surrounding this text - and you will be presented Seriously Detailed Instructions. Click around. Growing Photos. Notes. Recipes. Please let us share what we know.
We survive by selling on the internet, but we live to educate anyone who wants to learn about growing sprouts and microgreens. Learning is what the internet was actually built for, so we're really just doing our part.
Please enjoy sproutpeople.org
