A BIG SALE ON LEAFY SPROUTS
We know how horrible the economy is after completing Sproutpeople’s worst 1st quarter (January 1 through March 31) in many years. We also see it every week when grocery (and other) shopping. My (Gil) jaw literally drops when I see the prices of some things, and I’ve been so shocked at times that I speak (rather inappropriately I’m sorry to say) - in shock - out loud - without warning from my brain.
When a customer emailed last week, before placing an order - “Do you have any sales coming up?” - it motivated me. So everyone can thank Lisa L. for this sale - which will run through April 15 and includes all of our Leafy Sprout mixes. All are marked down at least 15%.
As you’ll read in the following segment - we have many more seeds in-stock. It’s that abundance that allows us to offer this sale. When we finally procure the few seeds we are still having difficulty finding - we will have more sales. Tough times call for everyone to help - and though we wish we could do more - we are happy to something, at least.
SEEDS & SEEDS & SEEDS
We just got in 3 tons of various seeds this past week. Finally! This Newsletter is coming today instead of our usual Tuesday because we never put any item in-stock until we have it in our possession - and delivery of the seeds was a bit of an ordeal. The 2 tons we received Monday took weeks to get from Canada to near us - and then when the local trucking company finally had them the fun really started. They tried to deliver them when we weren’t open, and then - actually lied the next day - Friday - saying we weren’t there when they came. When we’re expecting a delivery I literally run to the back door every time I hear a truck. We love our seeds and want to take control of them as soon as we possibly can.
In the before times - when society functioned within normal operating parameters - I could call the local trucking office and talk with a dispatcher to coordinate delivery. It was good for us and it was good for the trucking company. No one wasted time. Nowadays I’m routed to the corporate office in another state, thousands of miles away. On Friday when we came home - after being told we weren’t at work to receive our pallets - I just sat in the car stewing.
Fortunately for us I had a number in my voicemail for the driver who tried to deliver them at 6:30am on Thursday. I called him as he was the only local person I could contact. It turned out that he’s delivered to us multiple times in the past. His name is Erwin. He was so sorry about the driver who claimed we weren’t there. We talked and commiserated about people half-assing their jobs, lying, not trying - not caring. Thanks to Erwin the seeds did came on Monday - and he delivered them. Thank you Erwin! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
The other pallet came Wednesday with no stress. That local company called and scheduled a delivery window on Tuesday. Thanks to them for doing it right. So, we again have Sesame, Millet and Wild Rice back in-stock. What came in on Monday included more of our great Adzukis and new (great) Garbanzos as well as exceptional Buckwheat Lettuce (in shell Buckwheat).
THE 4 LEGGED ONES
I’m keeping this Newsletter short. I had a big one planned, but I’m saving it for later. Spring is finally in the air - despite the chill - and snow that fell on the highest Bay Area peaks this week - and there’s much do - so without further delay - here’s some pictures of those in charge of love and chaos around here…
Essentials for those new to the world of Indoor Farming...
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPROUTS AND MICROGREENS
To us the difference is that with Sprouts we grow with nothing but water and we eat the entire crop (with the possible exception of hulls and roots that grow out the bottom of our Stainless Steel Sprouters) - and they are alive when we eat them. Microgreens are grown on a medium and we harvest them by cutting them just above that medium - at which point they move from alive to not. Raw, great, delicious - just not alive.
While I'm on this subject I need to explain why we have two different names for the same seed - like Broccoli Sprouts and Broccoli Microgreens. This is the same seed. The difference is that each crop has its own page - you go to the Broccoli Sprouts page to learn how to grow the seed into Sprouts and you go to the Broccoli Microgreens page to learn how to grow it into Micros.
This seed will also grow a full sized - which is like 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide - Broccoli plant in a garden - given the proper climate and encouragement.
SEED STORAGE
If you don't yet know how to get the longest life for your seeds - and prevent pests - visit our Seed Storage page. The best way to store seeds is in the freezer, but do not use the refrigerator as its humidity fluctuations can harm seeds. There's a bit more to it - so perhaps just visit the page =;-)
Grow to Live - Live to Grow.
Be well and happy.

Sproutpeople.org is an encyclopedic resource of our creation - for indoor farmers of Sprouts, Microgreens, and Grass. It is so enormous that it gives some the impression that we are a big business. The reality is that we are basically 2 people who eat and breath Sproutpeople - and 2 part-time helpers (one being our son). Our site has been online since 1996. It's the employee that allows us to serve all of you.
In addition to a section that teaches the Basics of Sprouting and Growing, a goodly section of Recipes, a bunch of Videos, and a whole lot more -
Every Seed and Mix we offer has a profoundly detailed page devoted to it. Those pages feature two sets of Growing Instructions (Brief for the experienced and Detailed for the not yet experienced), a Video, Photos of the crop growing day-by-day, Recipes, Crop Specific Notes, Nutrition Info, and quite a bit more. Each of our Supplies also has a detailed page.
Our vast content is organized with Tabs (on computer) and Pull-Down Menus (on mobile devices). Click/Choose, for example Detailed Instructions on the page you go to when you click any of the pictures surrounding this text - and you will be presented Seriously Detailed Instructions. Click around. Growing Photos. Notes. Recipes. Please let us share what we know.
We survive by selling on the internet, but we live to educate anyone who wants to learn about growing sprouts and microgreens. Learning is what the internet was actually built for, so we're really just doing our part.
